Stay tuned to Shockya.com for the latest from Yogi Bear .There hasn t been much information released regarding Warner Bros. upcoming live-action/CGI mixed movie, Yogi Bear, since the first announcement of the film back in 2008. Now Yahoo! Movies has the first exclusive look at the official poster and honestly, it isn t that bad.
Really though, the look of Yogi and his sidekick Boo-Boo was never in doubt the story, however, was. Animation technology has reached such a the level that there is never an excuse for a serious studio to ever fall behind in that area, but just like every other film out there (animated or not), if the story is crap then so too is the film.
Eric Brevig, who s last major directing gig was the woeful Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, has got his work cut out for him because Yogi Bear is a classic American cartoon icon ranking right up there with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. There aren t too many people that don t know who Yogi and Boo-Boo are, and if he screws this up, then regardless of how slick the CG looks, his movie will fail.
The original Yogi Bear was voiced by Daws Butler then in later years Greg Burnson; classic funny man Dan Aykroyd will lend his voice to the character for this new film. There isn t too much I don t like Aykroyd in and I think his voice is an excellent choice. Justin Timberlake joins him voicing Yogi s best friend and sidekick Boo-Boo Bear and this might be where the train starts to derail. Timerblake did an awful job voicing Artie in Shrek the Turd Third and I have a feeling he hasn t improved since then, but I ll leave my hopes high that Brevig was able to coach him properly and everything turns out OK.
In the original cartoon
, Yogi s girlfriend was Cindy Bear but in this modern version her name has been changed to Rachel and she will be voice by Anna Faris. I m not too sure why they changed her name other than Cindy seemed too old fashioned? Rounding out the original cast is Tom Cavanagh as Yogi s enemy Ranger Smith. I like Cavanagh in this role and I think he will interact well with the three CG bears. I know it s not much to live up to, but he needs to be as good as Jason Lee was in Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Warner Bros. has released 8 movie clips from their upcoming live-action/CGI feature Yogi Bear. While the trailers haven t exactly won me over, I also realize I m not the target demo and kids will probably love this movie. Hit the jump the clips of Yogi (voiced by Dan Aykroyd), Boo Boo (voiced by Justin Timberlake), Anna Faris as visiting nature documentary filmmaker Rachel Johnson, Tom Cavanagh as the diligent Ranger Smith, T.J. Miller as Smith s over-enthusiastic deputy, Ranger Jones, Andrew Daly as the conniving Mayor Brown; and Nate Corddry following behind as Brown s Chief of Staff.
